Project Summary

Located in the North Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle, Prospect Congregational United Church of Christ (UCC) is an open and affirming congregation, welcoming all. Prospect UCC’s RainWise installation includes two cisterns, managing rainwater runoff from a total of over 3,000 square feet of roof area. The project

  • keeps 12,700 gallons of stormwater out of combined sewers every year,
  • provides detention and infiltration of the existing roof area,
  • generates water storage for summer landscape irrigation, and
  • protects Lake Washington from combined sewer system overflows.

The project was completed in November 2017, with a total of $11,496 covered by the RainWise rebate program.

Project Specifications

It only took Earth Alchemist Enterprises about six months to complete the project from initial inspection to final sign-off. Installation included two 865-gallon cisterns, with one on the west side of the church and one on the southeast side. One 865-gallon cistern captures 1,580 ft2of roof area, with overflow to the alley and the other cistern captures 1,650 ft2of roof area, with overflow to side sewer.

Environmental Stewardship

In March 2018, the RainWise Program celebrated Prospect UCC’s commitment to clean water with a  dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony. Prospect UCC hopes others join the RainWise program! Project partners include church leadership, King County staff, RainWise outreach staff and the creative design talents of the RainWise contractor, Earth Alchemist Enterprises.
